The Moon Might Be Milk

by Lisa Shulman
illustrated by Will Hillenbrand
Dutton Children's, 2007

A curious little girl named Rosie sees the bright, white light of the moon, and starts to wonder what the moon is made of. She asks all her animal friends. "The moon is a saucer of fresh milk," says Cat. "The moon is a round pat of swee, creamy butter," says Dog. But Rosie still isn't sure what the moon is made of, until she asks her very wise Gran, who always knows the answers (and is a wonderful baker, too!).

I read this book to my friends, and they all have opinions about the moon! Muddle thinks the moon is a shiny penny. Ladybug insists that the moon is a mirror, just her size. Sometimes I think the moon might be a big dandelion puff, and the stars are its little seeds, blowing across the night sky. What do you think the moon is made of?
