Lizette's Green Sock

Catharina Valckx
Houghton Mifflin, 2005

I do declare, I am always losing things. I have a pair of zebra-striped slippers that have kept my feet warm all winter, but one mysteriously disappeared a few days ago. In Lizette's Green Sock, a little duck-girl named Lizette finds a lonely sock. Just like my slipper, it is missing its mate. Still, she finds the sock quite wonderful and goes to show everyone what she's found. Tim and Tom tease her and tell her a sock is no good by itself, so Lizette searches hard for the other one without luck.

Happily, Lizette's friend Bert, who shares her love of the green sock, helps her find a solution. This book made me giggle, AND realize I could still use my one slipper as an oven mitt in the kitchen!
