Stagestruck
Tomie dePaola
G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2005
Last winter my friends and I put on a performance of “A Streetcar Named Housefly.” I got to play the part of Shella, and it was then I caught the…er…acting bug! I’ve been auditioning left and right for roles, and making Thud and Muddle practice my lines with me. Reading Stagestruck reminded me how much I love being on stage! Tommy adores acting and just knows he will win the part of Peter Rabbit in the school play. But his big mouth lands him a smaller part, and he has to come up with a way to be the star. The book not only made me giggle until I rolled over on my shell, but also made me feel better about being such a “ham”—someone who is just really funny and steals the show every time! Although I would prefer to be called a “star,” thank you very much.
