Pepperkakor

Nibble on these Swedish pepper cookies or hang them around the house, just as Max and Kate did in the December 2007 issue of Ladybug.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 3 cups floud
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp ginger


Directions:

  1. Mix sugar, shortening, egg, molasses, and vinegar together well. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Mix the two together. Chill for 8 hours.
  2. Then, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Use cookie cutters to make different shapes. You may use a drinking straw to punch a hole at the top of the cookies you'd like to use for ornaments.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Let cool, then frost with your favorite vanilla icing. For unfrosted cookies you will use as ornaments, let harden, thread with ribbon, and hang around the house for some holiday cheer.
